      AMCU strike begins
      AMCU takes its members out on a protected strike at the three major platinum producers in Rustenburg. Non-striking workers are put on paid leave in order to ensure their safety and to protect the assets of the Company. Only essential and emergency services were maintained for the duration of the strike

      Marula achieves two million fatality-free shifts

      AMCU march to Implats’ head office to deliver a memorandum
      Terence Goodlace responds saying that while the Company was amenable to consider structural changes to the labour system, these could only be achieved over time through a carefully considered labour compact that not only considered the disposable income of workers, but also their socioeconomic well-being and the mining communities that are impacted by mining, as well as the profitability/sustainability of these operations

      Wage settlement agreement reached with AMCU
      Impala and AMCU conclude a three-year wage settlement agreement for the Rustenburg operation bringing an end to the five-month industry-wide strike in which employees forfeited approximately R1.9 billion and Impala forfeited revenue of approximately R7.2 billion. Employees return to work on 25 June 2014

      Implats continues to invest in housing
      The second development in Implats’ housing programme, Platinum Village, was initiated in Rustenburg in 2012 and during 2014 we completed Phase 1 (R140 million) to build 557 out of a planned 2 420 houses

      Underground collapse of Bimha mine at Zimplats
      The rapid deterioration of ground conditions caused by the Mutambara Shear fault line that transgresses through half of the mining area at Bimha mine leads to the temporary quarantining of the mining footprint. Estimates are that overall production will be negatively affected by some 70 000 platinum ounces in 2015

      Impala signs a new recognition agreement with AMCU laying the foundation to advance the election of shop stewards for wage negotiations and to progress the health, safety and environmental agreement

      Framework Agreement for a Sustainable Mining Industry in South Africa
      The main stakeholders with the exception of AMCU agree to work cohesively together to bring about lasting change and to reposition the industry as a key contributor to the economy and job creation

      Certificate of non-resolution issued by the CCMA to AMCU
      Despite ongoing mediation facilitated by the CCMA between the Company and AMCU as part of the annual wage negotiation, the parties remained deadlocked and the CCMA issued a certificate of non-resolution allowing the union to call a protected strike subject to a 48 hour notice period

      Following severe constraints on the power network, Eskom implements emergency measures to protect the grid

      Safety remains Implats’ key priority
      Full implementation of nets and bolts on both the UG2 and Merensky horizons at Impala Rustenburg is completed at a cost of ±R200 million per annum (R21 per tonne). An increased focus on leading indicators and actions is implemented during the year
